چکیده

Montreal Protocol set world-wide goals in January 1996 to reduce the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and ultimately eliminate all CFC use. This restriction has advanced the urgent development of alternative chemicals. Recently, in a Korean electronic factory, male and female workers exposed to 2-bromopropane (2-BP), which does not seem to affect the stratospheric ozone and is therefore used as an alternative solvent in open systems instead of CFCs, had potential hematopoietic and reproductive disorders. Several experimental studies also indicate that 2-BP exhibits reproductive and hematopoietic toxicity, but there are very few data containing information on the teratogenicity of 2-BP, although Lim et al. showed a decrease in the number of rat pups born and no teratogenic effects after maternal treatment with 2-BP during pre-organogenesis, which is not a critical stage in organogenesis. Therefore, in the present study, we examined the potential teratogenicity of 2-BP in more detail by injecting it on day 10 of gestation (DG 10), at the late period of organogenesis of fetuses, and observing them at nearterm. This study is the first to examine whether 2-BP has teratogenic effects on rodent fetuses after maternal treatment late in organogenesis of fetuses.

Teratogenic effect of Lippia citriodora leaves aqueous extract in mice

Objective: Safety of Lippia citriodora, as a herbal remedy, in pregnancy has not yet been evaluated. This study aimed to identify the effect of L. citriodora aqueous extract on pregnancy outcome in mice. Materials and Methods: Timed-pregnant mice received doses of 0.5 g/kg/day L. citriodora aqueous extract or the vehicle control during organogenesis, intraperitoneally. Maternal body weights wer...

Teratogenic effects of silymarin on mouse fetuses

Objective: Silybum marianum has been used for centuries in herbal medicine for treatment of liver diseases. Currently, there is no data available on the possible effects of silymarin on fetal development. This study aimed to investigate the teratogenic effect of silymarin on BALB/c mice fetuses. Materials and Methods: A total of 40 pregnant mice were divided into 4 groups of 10 mice each. Three...

Teratological Effects of Chlorpyrifos in Mice

Introduction: Chlorpyrifos (CPF), an organophosphate insecticide, was evaluated for potential teratogenic effects in mice. A single oral dose of insecticide (i.e. 72, 36 18 or 9 mg/kg) was given to the pregnant females on gestation day6 (GD6). These doses correspond 50, 25, 12.5 and 6.25% to the calculated LD50 value (144 mg/kg) for the pregnant mice. No signs of overt toxicity were observed at...
